A regional strategy for the reactivation of housing in municipalities at risk of depopulation.

Nou Servef is participatory process for improving the Valencian Employment and Training Service, through the involvement of all the stakeholders it works with. Workshops, interviews and surveys are used to draw up a strategic document for the innovation of the entity which has more than 1,000 employees in the regions of Castelló, València and Alacant.

Assessment for the decision-making process of Concomitentes, an organisation that promotes the creation of artworks and mediates between civil society, which commissions them, and the artists, who produce them. The process is based on the fact of thinking, which gathers, organises and relates the diversity of views on the project in relation to its main challenges. In order to facilitate decision-making, 4 main challenges are identified, their strengths and challenges, as well as the basic needs to face. A short term roadmap is proposed which, together with a canvas, organises the decision-making process and facilitates the transformation of the organisation.

Field work and technical study on underused and empty housing in Alzira (Valencia). The aim of evaluating the implementation of housing mobilisation programmes such as masoveria (renovation exchange for rent). The characterisation of the housing and its ownership are defined in order to gain a deeper knowledge of the situation of the building stock and define public policies that enable its mobilisation (from the Public Administration and from private individuals).

Qualitative and quantitative evaluation through 20 indicators to find out the changes that have been generated in the surroundings of the first superblock of Valencia. A methodology is created to periodically evaluate and detect opportunities for improvement the implementation of future superblocks in the city. Using different tools and a participatory approach, the information obtained talks about the effects generated by the superblock related to: environmental quality, public space, mobility, local commerce, socio-economic conditions and the level of satisfaction.

Study for the identification and activation of underused houses in Vall de Almonacid (Castellón). The goal is to attract new residents avoiding depopulation of rural areas. After identifying the empty houses in the town and analysing case studies, the report suggests several actions which could be implemented by the Municipality to promote their activation: from traditional renting to masoveria (renovation exchange for rent).

“El camino de la almazara” is the winning project of the CRU VI, which seeks to consolidate and rehabilitate the old olive mill of La Artejuela and its surroundings.

The project is organised around the path that connects the mill with the washing place, the small water reservoir and the rest of the village. Along this trail, the existing constructions are highlighted and small areas are created where people can rest or contemplate the surroundings. It also recovers the interior space of the olive mill with the millstone, and the modern press in the outdoors.

It is planned to reuse local materials: tiles, wood or remains of the mill, which will be integrated into the paving of the path.

“El camino de la almazara” is a minimum proposal, to make an impact only where it is necessary. The aim is not to change the existing space, but to value and preserve it as a community space.

Design of a toolkit which facilitates coordination between LABORA services with Employment Guidance in educational centres. To reach the main goal of introducing young people to employment and formatiom, the toolkit uses gamification techniques. The kit allows students to work in an explorative and participative way on aspects related to the field of employment, rather than common talk about the employment guidance service.

The project is part of the Integral Plan Avalem Joves 2021-2024, which is based on the continuous communication to the target (young people) in order to understand their needs and make employment policies more accurate, effective and efficient.

Proposal for a building for the Espai Dones i Igualtat service of the City Council of Valencia, in El Carmen neighbourhood. The project aims to integrate the uses of the new building from a gender approach with the archaeological remains of the ancient city. In collaboration with Piano Piano Studio, Miguel Hernández Alonso and Manu Monteagudo.

A set of pieces of furniture and participatory devices to: collect citizens’ views on the reliability of data, commitment to the truth and rigorous journalism. They were designed together with Makea for the 10th anniversary festival of the digital newspaper elDiario.es. celebrated in the plaza del Ayuntamiento de València.

The workshop seeks to explore the city through the personal stories of those who share a place on the map: Valencia. This exchange allows us to bring together personal experiences, to discover our interdependence and to learn from the territory we inhabit. This participatory workshop is part of the 8th edition of Arquia Próxima. In the documentary that summarizes the festival, the worked map can be viewed and complemented with the stories of the people involved in it.

Urban planning instrument that takes the methodology of Ecological Urbanism, Life Cycle Analysis and Programming Applied to Design. It provides a guide to the cities that undertake the Climate Mission.

Plan.Cero is composed by a multidisciplinary team from the Universitat Politècnica de Valènica, Arqueha and Carpe. We assume the management and execution of the Citizen Participation and Innovation strategy that will ensure the social transfer and the civic engagement in the project.

A study for the characterisation of empty dwellings detected by the Castelló de la Plana Town Council. After an analysis of the available data, site visits are made to find out the status of the properties and the needs of the residents’ associations. The process ends with the definition of proposals and strategies to achieve the mobilisation of empty housing and its rehabilitation.

A citizen participatio process, promoted by Entitat Valenciana d’Habitatge i Sòl (Valencian Housing and Land Development Agency), that provides opportunities through collective dialogue to find needs and build solutions in the village of La Torre.

Proposal for the renovation and the extension of an innovative public housing building in Castelló de Plana. Awarded third place in the Projecte Pilot ideas competition of the Regional Ministry of Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture.

La Masovera is a platform to connect people in order to facilitate masoveria projects (renovation exchange for rent). This platform offers different resources and services to facilitate the process of transferring the use of a property in exchange for its rehabilitation.

We designed and promoted the first edition of Participatory Budgeting with the Department of Participation of Benigànim Town Council. Based on methodologies applied in other cities, we designed a participatory process adapted to the reality of a municipality of 6,000 inhabitants.

After a public presentation, 34 proposals were collected, assessed and validated by the municipal technical team. Using an online platform, a voting process was opened and the 3 winning proposals were chosen.

Process of co-design of a Civic Lab from which to face the challenges of the city of Valencia. A space to bosst civic innovation, and at the same time, to take care of the people who design, manage and draw up proposals for improving their environment. Throughout different face-to-face and digital formats, we explore current civic labs models, incorporate their learning and co-design a specific-context Lab.

We involved people linked to community culture, social movements and neighbourhood projects. It has been developed with the support of Grigri Projects and OFIC.

Dispositiu de Resiliència Urbana is a project of co-creation of two pergola-benches that respond to the need to provide shade and rest areas in the IES Benicalap schoolyard. The proposal won a prize in the Benicalap Més Verd collaborative green ideas competition.

Civic Lab for co-creating citizen projects in the neighbourhood of Orriols, Valencia. Orriols Crea supports the community with the coordination, visibility, communication and dissemination of existing projects and facilitates the generation of new collective proposals. Through collaborative work methodologies, a roadmap is drawn up for each project, which allows them to work independently.

A programme for discussion, experimentation and dissemination of innovative urban solutions. Through discussion, experimentation and dissemination activities, different sectors of society are connected about an urban topic.

A platform to collect and connect citizen stories linked to places in the districts. These places are discovered using a methodology that works in circles of trust and are the pretext for thinking together about urban actions.

Single-family house in Rafelbunyol (Valencia). The project, the first home for a young couple, seeks to contemporaneously look over the traditional Valencian house typology. The design aims to make the most of natural light through double-height spaces, and to organise itself in a clear and flexible way.

Installation for the promotion of Monitor, a platform that provides real-time data and evaluations on the state of citizen freedoms in 196 countries.

Faced with the challenge of making a detachable device that could travel and fit in a suitcase, we designed a structure and panels in which, using texts, audios and interactive information, the different degrees of citizen freedoms are experienced.

MAS is the project to renovate and extend the Masia de Sant Josep, a 19th century rural building to become the offices of Montserrat Town Council. The project seeks to conserve the image of the historical building by enhancing its characteristic elements. In this way, the activity programme is set out in a similar way to that of the farmhouse, respecting its original three-part organisation and recovering the side areas with contemporary architecture.

The project was carried out in collaboration with Crux Arquitectos and Anna Solaz.

Participatory process for the recovery of the collective memory of the neighbourhoods of Tres Forques-Vara de Quart (Valencia). The project is based on meetings to create a documentary archive with photographic, cartographic, narrative and audiovisual material. Once the different participatory sessions have been held, an exhibition is presented in which the work carried out collaboratively by more than 30 organisations in the area is shown.

Marjal Urbana is the winning proposal of the projects competition for the skatepark in Plaça de l’Ona (La Marina de València). It was born from the idea of replicating the concept of Marjal, understood as an intermediate area between the urbanised territory and the sea. Marjal is the Valencian term used to define a wetland area, close to the sea, with great natural wealth.

Together with the project’s drafting team formed by Straddle 3, Eulia and Sergi Arenas, several co-design workshops are held where the city’s skater community contributes, from their experience, to perfect the final design.

A guide for evaluation of civic labs. Through 7 simple steps, Civímetro facilitates the implementation of a complete Evaluation Plan: from the definition of goals, to the field work and the drawing up of conclusions. Its methodology has been tested in different Civic Labs.

Training session held during the co-creation process for the eco-neighbourhood La Pinada in Paterna, Valencia.

Working with the project’s technical team and future neighbours, we share reflections that aims to collectively define the willed model of neighbourhood and its public space. Based on realistic and current examples, we show which factors are necessary to design a place that puts people, their lifestyles and needs at the centre of the design.

Process of activation of the building annexed to the Real monasterio de la Trinidad (Valencia) after a period of inactivity. Colector’s programme is designed, coordinated and managed together with a large community, in order to turn it into a collaborative and innovative space open to the city.

Over the course of more than a year, Colector hosts artists’ residencies, talks, exhibitions and workshops, as well as a permanent space for collaborative work. The result is the activation and positioning of the place as a reference point for emerging culture in the city.

Since 2018, we have been participating in the Housing Innovation subject of La Càtedra Habitatge, with the aim of bringing ETSA-UPV students closer to the projects we carry out at Carpe in terms of participation and collective housing. In addition to exchanging experiences and concerns, the session is an opportunity to prepare for the field visits and to get a closer look at the needs of the people who live in the social housing buildings that are the subject of the course.

Research for the activation of a pilot office of Labora (Valencian Employment and Training Service) that would take into account the principles of collaborative work, caring spacesr and learning. The result is a non-regulatory document that defines a new model of Espai Labora, the elements that make it up and the environmental conditions they should have.

This publication shows new ways of doing and thinking in which citizens play a leading role in the promotion of transformative actions. It compiles projects, reflections and research that have been conducted around the Civic Design course since its first edition in 2015. A course promoted by the Civic Innovation School in which more than 500 people from almost 30 countries have participated.

A space where citizens and City Council collaborate in collective projects that transform the city and make it more open, collaborative and sustainable. Over 2 years, a collaborative diagnosis for El Grau Castelló, a co-design process for the Josefina López square and a study for the activation of civic spaces were developed.

A Integral Participatory Strategy for the identification of future challenges for the Orriols neighbourhood, Valencia. During six months and across three thematic areas (housing, public space and employment and commerce), we worked collectively to define actions that emerge from the needs of the neighbourhood and that are focused on improving the quality of life in the neighbourhood. As a result, a document is drawn up to collect the participatory inputs and to arrange strategic action lines from an comprehensive vision.

Refurbishment of a ground floor area for a physiotherapy and osteopathy clinic in Enguera, Valencia. The project is based on a flexible structure that divides the space into four: waiting room, multi-purpose room, consultation room and services. From these hang six sliding panels that modify the configuration of the space, allowing for multiple uses. The materials chosen provide the texture, warmth and light that are optimal for manual practice.

Co-design process to transform a plot of land into a square for the residents of Orriols, Valencia. Through a diverse participatory activities, a project is designed for the space that is now the heart of the neighbourhood.

“Ciudad Sensible: infraestructura para la participación” gathers the knowledge acquired during the sessions held in Orriols (Valencia) and which introduced the Sembra Orriols process that culminated with the inauguration of the Sant Jeroni square in 2018.

The publication was awarded as a finalist in the Dissemination category of the XIII Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism.

The purpose of this month-long festival is to activate an underused America’s Cup base located in La Marina de València and to generate proposals in a collaborative way between the different stakeholders addressed to the city: educational centres, companies, citizens and institutions.

The project won the Valencia City Council Social Innovation Award (2017), and it is the driving force behind the Civic Factory concept, created by Civicwise.

One of the 5 thematic routes of the travelling embassy Biziz, carried out within the framework of the European Capital of Culture 2016 of Donostia-San Sebastián.

Under the slogan “The collective construction of the city”, cultural and social initiatives are interviewed, maped, recorded and made them visible to look the city on a human scale. The route goes through more than 64 cities in Spain and Portugal.

This project aims to incorporate the perspective of childhood in the city through different actions such as pedestrian school routes, pedagogical activities and urban actions. Pas a Pas works transversally with parents, schools, family associations, local shops and police, to generate a support network for the autonomy of children in the city.

Promoted by the Town Council of Xàbia and implemented by a technical team formed in different phases by Chema Segovia, Tano Espinosa, Irene Reig, Toni Moya, Maje Reig, Mónica Martín, Ramon Marrades, Natalia Castellanos, Joan Sanchis and Marina Senabre. Award from the Conselleria de Territori in the first edition of the Housing, Urban Planning and Mobility with a Gender Perspective awards.

Xarranca or Tejo are the Catalan and Alicante variants of hopscotch, the traditional game that consists of playing ten squares by jumping alternately with one or both feet. This project includes two interventions carried out in the summer of 2014 in the cities of Igualada and Villena.

A conference for debating, creating and collective researching that comes from the need to explore new ways of making the city from a transdisciplinary perspective. A series of practical workshops, conferences and debates are held in which universities, professionals and citizens work together. In 2015, after two editions (2013 and 2014) at the ETSA-UPV, Ciudad Sensible is taking to the streets with ContextoArquitectura and Orriols Convive association with the aim of transferring knowledge directly to the city.
