Participatory process for prior consultation on the Alicante General State Budget
The current plan for Alicante was definitively approved on 27 March 1987. Despite the many modifications and adjustments made over the years, the current plan is no longer able to respond effectively to contemporary urban needs and dynamics. In this context, the drafting of the city’s General Plan has begun.
For the preliminary consultation of the General Structural Plan, a series of spaces and tools are proposed that exceed the minimum requirements of the Valencian Community’s Law on Land Use, Urban Planning and Landscape. In order to open up a space for dialogue between the administration and citizens, to understand their needs and priorities, and to ensure effective participation, a participatory methodology based on information sessions, surveys and workshops is being applied to enrich the content of the Plan from a citizen’s perspective.
Beyond the information sessions, the participatory sessions implemented address qualitative aspects of the document’s three areas of development: green infrastructure and mobility; urban growth and development; and urban services and regeneration. Meanwhile, the online survey collects citizens’ perceptions in a quantitative manner in order to evaluate and prioritise proposals. Finally, a website has been created as a repository where the results of each session and the materials worked on can be clearly consulted.
