ARREL
ARREL is a participatory strategy that responds to the growing demand for housing in municipalities at risk of depopulation in the Valencian Community. The reactivation of affordable housing is a fundamental element to fix population and attract new people interested in developing their life project in a rural environment.
The strategy is defined together with a participatory process in which, through interviews, thematic workshops and working groups, agents of the territory contribute their knowledge, concerns and experiences in the search for solutions adapted to the reality of the territory.
ARREL is developed on the basis of direct knowledge of the territory. It visits and studies 180 municipalities in the provinces of Castelló, Valencia and Alacant, giving as a result a diagnosis, a study of underused housing and a characterisation of each municipality and area.
As a first action, a web platform is launched in addition to the drafting of the strategy, in order to facilitate the search for a destination for those people interested in continuing their life project in one of the 180 municipalities.
ARREL is committed to understanding housing as another territorial policy framework, considers alliances between agents from different sectors as the key to its successful implementation, and is open to the implementation of innovative methods for mobilising housing in rural locations.
The result is a strategy that promotes the reactivation of housing through actions that allow for a more in-depth understanding of: the reality we are facing; rehabilitation to recover the building stock; access to affordable housing; and housing that takes into account the complexity of municipalities at risk of depopulation.
