Vinival: a legacy for shaping the city

The exhibition on the Vinival Wineries offers a glimpse into the recent past to understand the architectural, industrial and social value of one of the most representative complexes of Valencia’s wine-making modernisation. At Carpe, we have taken on the task of reviving the memory of the wineries through historical documents, visual material and interviews with people connected to the wineries. The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the history of a site that today lies at the heart of a profound process of urban transformation.

The exhibition traces the history of the complex from its construction as a benchmark of architectural and industrial innovation through to its gradual abandonment and subsequent recognition as a heritage site. With the exhibition design we have proposed, the narrative is organised into different thematic areas that help visitors understand the relationship between productive activity, architecture and the evolution of the area, addressing both the operation of the wineries and the transformation of the Vera Industrial Estate and its future conversion into a new neighbourhood opening out onto the sea.

Interviews have been conducted with people who have played a part in Vinival’s history; their experiences and memories enrich the exhibition’s audiovisual content, lending a human dimension to the narrative. The exhibition thus provides a space for reflection on the importance of preserving collective memory as a tool for tackling urban regeneration processes, whilst championing industrial heritage as a fundamental part of the city’s identity and contemporary design.
