SUMP Castellón de la Plana Participation

The development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for Castellón de la Plana incorporates public participation as a tool for establishing a shared understanding of the city’s mobility situation. The process aims to complement the technical analysis with the everyday knowledge of those who live, work and travel in Castellón, bringing together different perspectives to define a more sustainable, accessible and safe mobility strategy.

Through an open survey and a series of participatory workshops, more than 500 contributions from members of the public, social organisations, educational institutions, business organisations, transport operators, professional bodies and academic stakeholders have helped to enrich the process. The sessions focused on key issues such as public transport, walking and cycling, accessibility, road safety, school travel, parking and low-emission zones, enabling the identification of needs, the comparison of proposals and the generation of new ideas tailored to the city’s reality.

The result is a process of listening and collective development that places the citizens’ experience at the heart of defining the future lines of action for the PMUS and moving towards a consensus-based, inclusive mobility model committed to addressing the environmental and social challenges facing Castellón de la Plana.
