RELATA

Community of Madrid, Valencian Community, Andalusia

RELATA seeks to promote the participatory construction of the city based on the spaces that young people inhabit, whether physical, digital or emotional.

Through a gradual process, it allows them to express their vision of the city, share it in trusted environments and connect it with other realities.

The younger generations often feel a lack of belonging to the territories they inhabit. Recent cultural, technological and social changes have led to a preference for privacy, a greater presence on social media and less knowledge of communities. This makes it difficult to create community ties, recognise one’s own role in the construction of the environment and, consequently, develop a sense of citizenship.

Based on the Vides Creuades methodology, RELATA works with neighbourhoods and nearby urban environments through circles of trust that range from the individual to the collective and the public. It uses audiovisual pieces, collective routes and mapping to record how young people inhabit and transform their territory.

For the implementation of RELATA, teaching teams are supported through various face-to-face and online training sessions that, in addition to guiding the self-production process, offer alternatives and references that open up the imagination about the possible outcomes of the box.

The creative box encourages reflection on the role of young people in public spaces. It includes materials for interviews in which students explore their relationship with their neighbourhood, create physical and digital maps, and produce a collective exhibition. During the first edition, the exhibition was held using a modular exhibition totem. In the second edition, a collective intervention on a canvas was proposed.
