Festival elDiario.es

2022
València

A set of furniture elements and participatory devices to celebrate 10 years of independent journalism.

The digital newspaper elDiario.es celebrated its 10th anniversary in September 2022 with a festival in the square of the City Hall of Valencia. A great citizen meeting articulated around a programme of talks, monologues, concerts and shows where numerous national and international personalities from journalism, politics, environmental activism and television were invited.

The art direction and production team of the festival, coordinated by Viernes and Ciertas Producciones, commissioned Carpe and Makea to design and produce a set of furniture elements: interactive devices, a kiosk and an information point. We defined a formal language based on the use of natural and recyclable materials in line with the corporate style of elDiario.es. These materials were selected because of their versatility, modularity and singularity.

Interactive devices were based on the visualisation of data to interact with the public in a funny way. Interactive panels were set up where the audience could contribute their vision on the independence and transformative capacity of journalism.

Regarding the furniture, we developed a set of signs and an elDiario.es logo that was installed on the festival’s stage. These elements, built in wood, reproduce the corporate arrow and include seats on both sides to embrace the interaction of visitors.

The project was completed by a kiosk, as a element that provided the functions of information point, merchandising sales and subscription of new members of the newspaper. A structure of wooden frames tied up with wooden boards and some drawers allowed information to be stored and displayed in them.

We handled the following tasks
  • Ideation: Research and context
  • Coordination: Process design
  • Production
  • Installation and disassembly
Project data
  • 6 signs – benches
  • 1 logo
  • 2 interactive devices
  • 1 kiosk as information point
