Co-design of the Hermanos Villafañe Square
In the neighbourhood of La Guinea, Castelló de la Plana, an Urban Regeneration and Renewal Area (ARRU) project is being developed to revitalise the surroundings of CEIP Castàlia, with the aim of improving public spaces and strengthening the school’s connection with its community. In collaboration with José Luis Gisbert, the project includes the expansion of the use of the Hermanos Villafañe square, the improvement of environmental conditions and universal accessibility in the nearby pedestrian areas, integrating a participatory approach that links the neighbours in the transformation process.
As part of this approach, co-creation sessions were held with 30 children from the school to gather their ideas on the remodelling of the square. Through dynamics of debate and collective creation, priorities were identified and an inclusive space for the neighbourhood was imagined. This activity, along with other participatory spaces, has been key to incorporating the real needs of the community and defining proposals that enrich the final design of the project.
