Publication for Alicante’s General Structural Plan
The development of materials for the Thematic Working Groups of “Alicante, un plan contigo”, the participatory process for Alicante’s General Structural Plan, stems from the need to make a document of great technical complexity – such as a General Plan – more accessible to the public. Beyond simply disseminating information, the project aims to translate urban planning language into clear, accessible and comprehensible formats, thereby facilitating informed and active participation in shaping the city’s future.
During March and April 2026, six thematic roundtables were held on green infrastructure, mobility, public facilities, urban regeneration initiatives, housing and the economic activities set out in the draft plan. Together with expert professionals, organisations and members of the public, the sessions facilitated an open debate on the proposals for each of the thematic areas. To support this process, we produced six information packs, designed to help people understand the challenges and proposals, as well as to support the collective work during the sessions.
The project combined the production of printed materials for the thematic round-table discussions held with the creation of a digital repository that brings together and organises the information generated during the process. This work of synthesis, design and communication transforms a technical and strategic document into an accessible tool for collective deliberation, reinforcing the role of visual communication as a means of bringing urban planning closer to the public and fostering a more open and participatory approach to urban planning.
