AlcoiBioUp! Participation and Governance Plan

Alcoy

The Department of Ecological Transition and Environment of the Alcoi City Council is leading the Renaturalisation and Biodiversity Improvement Strategy (AlcoiBioUp!), which seeks to increase the city’s environmental values and link them to direct benefits for all its inhabitants.

To achieve this goal, the project is based on the ecological restoration of rivers, ravines and other degraded areas, improving green infrastructure and natural connectivity within the city and with the surrounding areas of high ecological value. It also works to connect and naturalise urban green spaces, making them more sustainable, accessible and adapted to climate change.

In order to bring the Strategy closer to the public, a Participation and Governance Plan is being developed as a cross-cutting action. This is established as the framework from which, in addition to managing citizen participation in the design, implementation and management of the Strategy in the short and medium term, governance structures that integrate the Strategy at all levels and in all sectors will be consolidated.

Therefore, the Plan is proposed as a tool, both for the Alcoi City Council and for social agents and citizen entities, to activate participation and governance actions aimed at renaturalisation and improving diversity in coordination with the Renaturalisation Strategy.

The final document, structured in chapters, meets the following specific objectives:
To identify key aspects of the participatory context in Alcoi that enable the design of feasible actions tailored to the city’s needs.
To provide a methodological basis that guarantees the proper implementation of citizen participation and interdepartmental governance in the Strategy in the short and medium term.

Guide the insertion of participation mechanisms in the actions contemplated in the Strategy.
Facilitate the implementation of continuous participation mechanisms that contribute to shared governance in environmental policies.
Identify the resources, alliances and monitoring mechanisms necessary for the implementation of the Plan.
